Why The Falcon and The wintertime Soldier Trailer has To make with Captain America’s MCU legacy

After a dizzying day of outrageous amounts of news and trailers from the Disney Investor’s Day, the following day is bringing clarity. one of the reveals during that event was the first look of The Falcon and The wintertime Soldier trailer. The show was in development for a long time and was one of the first announced leading up to the launch of the Disney plus service. and now, we finally have actual footage of the new Disney plus original show, and it looks like quite the doozy. There are a lot of takeaways from the footage, so let’s unpack it all step by step.

The Falcon and The wintertime Soldier Trailer Take place After Avengers Endgame

So, spoilers for Avengers: Endgame coming, if you are the handful of people who haven’t seen it yet. The end of that movie, as well as the end of Captain America’s arc in the marvel Cinematic Universe, came with him handing the famous shield to Sam Wilson, aka, Falcon. This is completely comic-accurate, as at one point in time, Sam Wilson does become Captain America. I mean, so does Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan). Why that’s not a thing in the MCU is something I’m still sour about, but moving on!

It looks like The Falcon and The wintertime Soldier trailer points out that it’s not going to be that easy to replace Cap. Seemingly, there is some back and forth before Sam can fully become Captain, if at all? Rumors persisted that the show might deal with how the government doesn’t want Wilson (Anthony Mackie) to be the new Captain America. So it might explore how Sam has to verify his worth to others, as well as to himself, before picking up the Shield. given the current climate, a show about the government pushing back on a black character getting the title and position he deserves, feels relevant. thought it also feels a little odd for the MCU to be so nakedly political.

Does the possible story in The Falcon and The wintertime Soldier Trailer Undermine Endgame?

So the greatest question I have after enjoying The Falcon and The wintertime Soldier trailer, is how the story sort of might undermine the ending to Endgame. I mean, Captain America’s last act, in his old age mind you, was to personally choose his successor. and now if both Sam and the government don’t see that through, aren’t they successfully taking away from his legacy? Last we saw the Shield, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) was handing it to Sam. Whereas, the first few shots of this trailer show the shield in a museum, collecting dust.

The only way I can see them making up for that is by making the story a lot more angsty than it might need to be. maybe Sam doesn’t feel deserving of the Shield, and whatever adventure he goes through in this series will finally verify to himself that he does? His emotional journey might be to realize his own self-worth, which might be a cool way to do it. Unless there is someone else besides these two that might be going around as a faux, government approved Captain America in the meantime. Which allows them to bring in a character like USAgent, or one of the others to be a Captain America wannabe from the comics. The trailer itself does look incredible, with Disney spending all of the money on action set pieces that look like the scale of a movie.

All Bets Are Off With the MCU Disney plus Series

How the story of The Falcon and The wintertime Soldier plays out will be interesting. We are entering an entirely unprecedented area of content with these new Disney plus marvel shows. They are limited or tiny series based on secondary characters from the movies, in stories that may or may not fully connect to the main, larger MCU. While Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. started out similar, it was a network show that mainly stayed away from the motion pictures in its later seasons. production times for the series and the motion pictures were so discordant, they could barely afford to make a passing reference to the larger MCU. These shows, however, are completely integrated.

So to see how Sam and Bucky develop over the course of this story, which by the way, does see Baron Zemo (Daniel Bruhl) return as the big bad, will be very interesting. odds are that Sam will end up donning the suit and shield by the series’ end. playing out like a modified superhero story where the protagonist becomes an actual hero by the end. Although, I’m still miffed about where that leaves Bucky Barnes in the larger MCU without being the emotional anchor to his best friend, Steve Rogers. As seen in the final scene of The Falcon and The wintertime Soldier trailer, maybe their special and humorous friendship will figure out where Bucky goes from here.

The Falcon and The wintertime Soldier premieres on Disney plus on March 15, 2021.
