JJ Abrams Announces first HBO Max Series, including Justice league Dark

It’s been some months since JJ Abrams brought bad Robot to WarnerMedia in a $250 million deal that was less than he was offered by other studios. one of the reasons why Abrams turned down a bigger payday is so he could play with some of Warner Bros. best toys, meaning the DC Comics line of characters. Well, a new announcement from WarnerMedia revealed the first three series that bad Robot will produce, including one hotly anticipated series for DC Comics’ fans. along with a series about a getaway driver and a Stephen King adaptation, JJ Abrams will bring Justice league Dark to HBO Max in a live-action series.

Along with the DC property, bad Robot will work on two new series for the streaming service. There is Duster, whose pilot will be co-written by Abrams and LaToya Morgan. set in the 1970s, the series follows a getaway driver for a crime syndicate in the American southwest. The second series will be Overlook, a spin-off of The Shining and doctor sleep by Stephen King. Castle rock alums Dustin Thomason and Scott brown will lead this series. details are scarce, but our bet is that the 10-episode series follows a young Dick Hallorann and his adventures at the haunted hotel.

Finally, rounding out the three series announcement, is that JJ Abrams will bring Justice league Dark to HBO Max in their first-ever live-action outing. Unlike the main Justice League, Justice league Dark deals with more magical threats. Fan-favorite characters like John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Zatanna, and Deadman are usually a part of the group. One has to wonder if the Justice league Dark series will be a joint production of HBO Max and DC universe as they are doing with Doom Patrol. Though, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the “fate of DC universe as a home for scripted originals remains murky, at best.” Still, with the second season of the animated Harley Quinn series currently airing, and Stargirl about to premiere (shared, of course, with the CW), DC universe is still trucking along.

HBO Max’s launch date will likely be in the summer (though maybe pushed up with everyone at home). WarnerMedia will announce its premiere in mid-to-late May. It will be home to classic series like pals as well as feature scripted originals like Dune and a new series based on green Lantern.
